At Bobanco, we design and build handcrafted, off-grid saunas and cabins from our small workshop in Leith, Edinburgh. Who are we?
As brothers growing up in Edinburgh, we’ve always appreciated the beauty and sense of freedom that remote Scotland has to offer. Our childhood summers were spent on the Isle of Tiree, where we would immerse ourselves fully in all that the wild, wet and windy West Coast had to offer. The white beaches, rugged coastline, and strong winds gave a peaceful retreat from the busyness of everyday life. This sense of disconnection is something we feel should be accessible to everybody.
That connection to the outdoors has stuck with us. It’s what led us to start Bobanco — a design-and-build company in Leith, focused on crafting cabins and saunas that thrive in tough, remote settings.
Our bespoke saunas and cabins are inspired by the wild weather of the Scottish Highlands. Scotland’s unpredictable elements are our constant companions: sudden downpours, lingering winters, and unforgiving coastlines. Our builds aren’t just made to withstand these extreme elements; they are built to thrive within them—through considered materials and thoughtful detailing.
Every piece is designed with resilience, comfort, and warmth in mind. For our saunas specifically, the exteriors are clad in sustainable, locally sourced, and weather-resistant Scottish larch; the exterior ages gracefully to a soft, silvery-grey that blends effortlessly into the hills. Inside, smooth alder lines the benches and walls, working in a harmonious dance with the sauna’s dry heat. Natural sheep’s wool further insulates the structure, holding warmth while letting the building breathe. From its overhung galvanised roof to solar lighting and a high-efficiency wood-fired stove, every element in our sauna balances thermal performance, comfort and permanence. The result is a sauna that stands steady in the storm. One that wears its years well, grows timelessly into its landscape, and welcomes you home, again and again.
